Atelier Programme Drawing Techniques
Requirements: no previous experience necessary
This drawing module is the first on our programme and will teach you how to draw in a representational style (as it looks in life). Using proven methods that were employed by the old master artists of the Renaissance, you will learn various charcoal application techniques to develop a high level of draftsmanship.
A common misconception is that drawing and painting are mainly skills of the hand. Whilst this is an important aspect, the key element is learning how to see what is front of you and deconstruct what you see, in order to translate it onto paper or canvas. This is why our highly tutored part-time programme provides you clear, step by step studies and time to practice.
During this module you will be covering proportion, tone and mass using chiaroscuro techniques to create a series of studies from scratch. Studies include; geometric shapes, still life and classical plaster cast. Each study is treated as a sight-size to cultivate a general competency for realistic charcoal drawing. All of the above provides a foundation upon which further growth can take hold in the subsequent modules.
“I’ve just completed the drawing course and the experience was superb. I had not touched charcoals for nearly 30 years, so the calm atmosphere, techniques and teaching pointers allowed me to re-discover my passion for art. I highly recommend this school”
