This is a two day studio based course in how to paint a portrait from a photograph. Many portrait artist work from photographs or use a mix of live models and photographs within their work.
In this short course you learn a simple way to scale up and transfer your photographic image onto a canvas quickly and efficiently keeping the proportion shape and likeness intact. You learn how to map out the image onto canvas using an imprimatura underpainting, a painting method used by the old masters of the renaissance.
Once the Imprimatura stage has been completed the focus is then on producing a Classical Chiaroscuro painting. A tonal value study matching the delicate monochrome values of the photograph.
