The drawing programme is in two stages Introduction To Drawing and From Drawing Into Painting. Drawing is essential to be an accurate painter and these modules will teach you how to draw in a representational style (as it looks in life). Using proven methods that were employed by the old master artists of the Renaissance, you will learn various graphite and charcoal application techniques to develop a high level of draftsmanship.
A common misconception is that drawing and painting are mainly skills of the hand. Whilst this is an important aspect, the key element is learning how to see what is front of you and deconstruct this in order to translate it onto paper or canvas. This is why our highly tutored part-time programme provides you clear, step by step studies, time to practice and goals for home study.
These modules will cover proportion, shape, angles, values and mass starting with Bargue drawing studies (2D - 2D) and progressing onto chiaroscuro techniques from simple classical plaster casts (3D - 2D). Each study is treated as a sight-size to cultivate a general competency for realistic drawing. We strongly recommend you choose to include a model session class, which will give you a life study opportunity these are Wednesdays and Fridays only (3D life - 2D). All of the above provides a foundation upon which further growth can take hold in the subsequent modules.
